Domain Name Registration

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Domain Registration is a procedure through which an individual or a company buys a domain name, which can also be called as a website name or domain, for e.g. www.xyz.com. Buying a domain name is a legal process in which the buyer is the rightful owner of that domain name for the period of time defined in a contract. Mostly people buy a domain name with a one-year contract, but this can be a two-year or a five-year contract.

Domain registrations are available through registrars. Before a domain is registered, its name is being checked to know whether the name is already bought or is available. If the name is available, then the registrar will register the domain and provide the owner with all the details of the domain name. In that process, one also has to provide the WhoIs information, which is public information, available for all. If the owner is not comfortable to share their information, registrar’s information can be displayed instead.

The WhoIs information includes the name, address, phone number, etc. of the domain name owner. Before buying a domain name, just make sure that what rights do you own of the domain name and would the registrar allow you to transfer your domain name to another registrar. Because in some cases, the registrars do not allow domain name transfers.

Before a domain name is bought from a registrar, it is better to get detailed information about them. Like for how long they are in business, how many domain names they have sold thus far, are they reliable, how much it costs to buy a domain name from them, etc. This information should be saved so that while comparing different services, this will provide a quick review.

Lincwebhosting can register various domains for a low cost inexpensive fee.

See our domain site for more information.

We are also able to transfer your existing domains into our system, depending which type of domain your wish to transfer, there may be a small fee.

A question that we get frequently asked is “why transfer”?

Well, in simple terms there are 2 ways to get your domains working on our web site hosting space.

Nameserver change

To change the nameservers on your existing domain to point to our web services, set your nameservers to

NS1.LINCWEBHOSTING.CO.UK    and

NS2.LINCWEBHOSTING.CO.UK

Our system will then take your domain name and resolve it, giving it the correct directions for email, ftp and http ( web requests ). If you just change the nameservers, your domain will stay with your existing domain registrar and you will be billed when due by them.

Transfer

To transfer your domain to our web system, differs slightly on what type of domain you have. .UK domains have a sort of reverse logic approach as appose to TLD domains such as .com

When a domain has been transfered to our system, your current registrar will release the domain and transfer the rights. This means essentially you will be billed by LINCWEBHOSTING upon renewal. Transfering domains is a simple process generally, but can at times be a bit cumbersome depending on releasing you current domain from your existing registrar.

Some registrars charge for transfering IN and OUT domains to their systems. Our transfer fee’s are displayed clearly on our website.

There are thousands of domain names registered each and every day of the year. Every domain name is unique, and in most cases you actually own the domain you have paid for. You are free to resell the domain at a profit if you wish to do so.
