Shared Web Hosting

There is no question about it–a web site is an essential component for the marketing and operation of a business. Of the different options for web hosting, including dedicated web hosting, managed web hosting, and free hosting, shared web hosting may provide the economy and convenience to best serve the interests of small businesses.

Shared web hosting involves one web server hosting many web sites. The shared hosting server may be run on Linux, Unix, or another operating system. Information technology professionals maintain the server, install up-to-date software, and provide technical support, but the web master working for an individual business can use a control panel or other tools provided by the host to upload files, add databases, and manage other features of the web site. The most common implementation is shared IP hosting, in which the web sites have the same IP address. A more expensive option is IP-based virtual hosting, in which each site under the same server has a different address.

A major advantage of shared web hosting is that it is economical. With so many shared web hosting services available, many compete for customers by offering monthly rates as low as £2 a month and bandwidth as high as 40 GB, with options for increasing both bandwidth and storage space. Also, the convenience of having professionals available and responsible for the proper functioning of the web server enables users to focus on the other priorities of running their businesses.

A shared web hosting service can ensure both efficiency and flexibility in web site maintenance. It is a viable option for small businesses looking for an easy and effective means of promoting their Internet presence.

Domain Name Registration

September 28th, 2008

Domain Registration is a procedure through which an individual or a company buys a domain name, which can also be called as a website name or domain, for e.g. www.xyz.com. Buying a domain name is a legal process in which the buyer is the rightful owner of that domain name for the period of time defined in a contract. Mostly people buy a domain name with a one-year contract, but this can be a two-year or a five-year contract.

Domain registrations are available through registrars. Before a domain is registered, its name is being checked to know whether the name is already bought or is available. If the name is available, then the registrar will register the domain and provide the owner with all the details of the domain name. In that process, one also has to provide the WhoIs information, which is public information, available for all. If the owner is not comfortable to share their information, registrar’s information can be displayed instead.

The WhoIs information includes the name, address, phone number, etc. of the domain name owner. Before buying a domain name, just make sure that what rights do you own of the domain name and would the registrar allow you to transfer your domain name to another registrar. Because in some cases, the registrars do not allow domain name transfers.

Before a domain name is bought from a registrar, it is better to get detailed information about them. Like for how long they are in business, how many domain names they have sold thus far, are they reliable, how much it costs to buy a domain name from them, etc. This information should be saved so that while comparing different services, this will provide a quick review.

Domain Names

September 27th, 2008

Lincwebhosting can register various domains for a low cost inexpensive fee.

See our domain site for more information.

We are also able to transfer your existing domains into our system, depending which type of domain your wish to transfer, there may be a small fee.

A question that we get frequently asked is “why transfer”?

Well, in simple terms there are 2 ways to get your domains working on our web site hosting space.

Nameserver change

To change the nameservers on your existing domain to point to our web services, set your nameservers to

NS1.LINCWEBHOSTING.CO.UK    and

NS2.LINCWEBHOSTING.CO.UK

Our system will then take your domain name and resolve it, giving it the correct directions for email, ftp and http ( web requests ). If you just change the nameservers, your domain will stay with your existing domain registrar and you will be billed when due by them.

Transfer

To transfer your domain to our web system, differs slightly on what type of domain you have. .UK domains have a sort of reverse logic approach as appose to TLD domains such as .com

When a domain has been transfered to our system, your current registrar will release the domain and transfer the rights. This means essentially you will be billed by LINCWEBHOSTING upon renewal. Transfering domains is a simple process generally, but can at times be a bit cumbersome depending on releasing you current domain from your existing registrar.

Some registrars charge for transfering IN and OUT domains to their systems. Our transfer fee’s are displayed clearly on our website.

There are thousands of domain names registered each and every day of the year. Every domain name is unique, and in most cases you actually own the domain you have paid for. You are free to resell the domain at a profit if you wish to do so.

What is Web Hosting ?

April 17th, 2008

In a nut shell , Web Hosting is a service that is provided by a company that allows data (your files) to be stored on remote servers. These servers are connected to the internet via high speed links,  therefore making your data available across the globe.

Choosing a Web Hosting supplier can be a daughnting task in itself. There seems to be so many available nowadays all wanting your business. They are all providing many great looking features, storage space,   bandwidth and special offers to lure you into their services. You may find yourself spending hours trying to just find the best deal on offer, that your head is banging and you feel like giving it up.

A few basic things that you can take into finding a good host are:

  • Cost
  • Quality of Service (QOS)
  • Make sure is has the basic features that YOU want, anything else should just be treated as a bonus.
  • Support
  • Datacentre

Web Hosting costs

Cheap web hosting is great, there are plenty of web hosting providers out there offering lots of features, which makes making the right choice more difficult. Keep a check of the cost on these items. Check carefully any packages or domains that are on offer, ensuring that you are not taking it on face value. An often trick is to price .UK domains really cheaply, say “BUY A DOMAIN FOR x pence”, but what they dont initially tell you is that you have to buy them for 2 years and there is an extra charge on top, also don’t forget about the good old VAT.

Quality of Service

Its all well and good having bargain basement web hosting, only to find out the service isn’t up to scratch. Slow speeds, downtime, little support are a few examples. Try asking a potential host for a test account so that you can trial their services. Our affordable web hosting  packages all come with a 30-day money back guarantee, so if you’e unhappy, we’ll refund your hosting package costs.

Features

Have in mind exactly what you want from your hosting provider before you start looking. All providers have a host of features on their packages, and you may find a lot of them are totally not required. The main items we belive are:

  • Email - The ability to send & receive email from your domain
  • Webmail - Be able to access your email accounts from anywhere in the world using an internet connection.
  • Databases - A backend database, so that items can be stored if neccessary.
  • Support - You have a good support. Its no use if your stuck and you can’t get any help.
  • FTP - The ability to upload / download files to your server space 24/7
  • Storage space - Your online disk space.
  • Bandwidth - How much you are allowed to download from your server space.

Of course, this is our opinion, and you should draw your own conclusions.

Support

Ensure the web hosting supplier has a good support system. If you need help, you want the confidence that you are going to get it. At Lincwebhosting we provide our clients with a comprehensive online support area. If this doesn’t solve the problem we are ALWAYS at hand to help.

Datacentre’s
Make sure you Web Hosting Provider has a reliable data centre. This means that they are housed somewhere in a secure, air conditioned room, that can be self generating in case of power failures. The data centres should be built to a high specification, afterall they’re handling all your data. They should have multiple connections to the internet, so any connection failure on the hosts side can be automatically re-routed, this also helps the servers in choosing the fastest path. Make sure the technology is up to date, its no good having loads of features, but running them on a server with the power of a pocket calculator.

Affordable web hosting can pay back time after time

April 17th, 2008

For those thinking of setting up their own website with affordable web hosting, there are a number of options open to them. Making one of the wisest business decisions they will ever make needs to be considered carefully. The marketing power of the web is nothing short of phenomenal; the heavy traffic that a website could attract can have a major impact in enhancing leads, closing deals, creating an avenue for return customers and generally making new contacts in a particular field. Obtaining a domain name registration, once your website is ready, is your first step.

Cheap web hosting companies can help you before you take out your domain registration:  usually included in their services are support and guidelines for building your own website. These are step-by-step and user-friendly instructions: you are given, for example, your own control panel, sample templates, and various other tools to assist you. Sites can also be tailored to your specific needs as required.

Affordable web hosting is a very economical way to launch your business on the net. Whilst many people spend large sums of money having complex websites designed, you can design a very good basic site in a very economical manner. Your domain name registration, together with expert assistance in site-building, can all be done in one go:  leaving you spare cash to use on enhancing the position and ranking of your website if you require.

Those who have a business, but do not advertise on the web, could be missing out on great potential trading opportunities. Cheap web hosting is an ideal way to obtaining your domain registration. Affordable web hosting providers can take all the hassle out of getting set up and transforming your business opportunities-an investment that could pay back many times over.

If you already have existing domain sites, a cheap web hosting company can also assist in transferring these for you. You will be given a package that allows you to assess what is required, how much it costs and what the final outcome will be-it couldn’t be easier.
